About this project
Rapp’s Barren
Located in the heart of the Historic Baker District on the downtown Mountain Home square, Rapp's Barren Brewing Company transformed the iconic Baker Building into one of North Arkansas' premier dining and entertainment destinations. Originally constructed in 1892, the Baker Building is recognized as the oldest commercial building on the Mountain Home square and one of the community's most significant historic landmarks. Rather than replace its history, this restoration focused on preserving it by carefully restoring original architectural elements while adapting the structure into a modern craft brewery and gastropub.
The project required extensive structural engineering, custom steel fabrication, and historic restoration to preserve as much of the original building as possible. Original materials, including historic doors, architectural components, and antique window weight, were thoughtfully repurposed into unmistakable features. New brickwork was meticulously crafted to match the character and craftsmanship of the original masonry, while custom millwork and modern finishes brought new life to the 130-year-old structure. The result is a one-of-a-kind adaptive reuse project that honors Mountain Home's history while creating a vibrant destination for future generations.
